In-Temple Services during COVID-19

Austin Hindu Temple is happy to announce In-Temple Services with the below guidelines that a Temple’s priest and a devotee should follow when a devotee visits the Temple for a service. This is not for samoohika pooja/Homam.

1. Priests and devotees should wear face masks at all times during the priest service.

2. Devotee needs to bring his/her own mask before visiting the Temple. If devotee does not have it, Temple will provide it for a suggested donation of $3 per mask. No Mask No priest service, No Exceptions.

3. All the CDC guidelines must be followed before and after entering the Temple’s campus – 6 feet social distancing, washing hands with soap/Sanitizer, etc.

4. Priest checks with the devotee on a few things before devotee travels to the Temple. The same questionnaire should be asked by devotee to the priest so that both are in agreement to perform the service in the assigned time in the Temple campus.

    a. Do you have fever/temperature? – Intended answer – No
    b. Do you or anybody in your home living with you have fever, cough, cold in the past 15 days? – Intended answer –         No
    c. Do you have any other known symptoms of Covid-19? Intended answer – No
    d. Did you Travel anywhere in flights or by any other mode from different country in the past 15 days? Intended         Answer – No

    The answer to these questions have to be “No”. If the answer is different, then either priest or devotee can reject the service at any time. Priest needs to call Religious Chair before cancelling the service so that he can speak to the devotee.

5. Priest will check the temperature by using no touch thermometer at the entrance of Ganesh temple. If the temperature is above normal reading > 99F, devotee will be asked to leave the campus immediately.

6. Maintain Social distance of 6 feet during all times.

7. As soon as devotee gets down the car from the parking lot in front of the Ganesh Temple, he/she has to wear the mask. NO EXCEPTIONS. Same goes with the priest until Priest Service is completed.

8. Priest will meet Devotee at the entrance of Ganesh temple to go over the guidelines once again.

9. Devotee will be provided sanitizer/disinfectant soap to clean the hands before starting the pooja. Priest and Devotee must clean their hands before the pooja.

10. Wearing gloves is preferred all times in campus. Devotees are requested to bring their own pair of gloves.

11. Bringing homemade prasadam, fruits, flowers, or pooja materials are strictly prohibited.

12. Devotees are requested not to touch any vigrahas in the temple during the stay. No-Touch policy is implemented at all times in the campus.

13. The maximum people allowed for any pooja is 4 depending on the type of priest service. It should be just one nuclear family who are living together for some time.

14. All priest services are performed in Navagraha Temple or Yagashala.

15. The following are the services that are offered at the Temple during COVID-19 situation.

        Hiranya Shradham
        All Homams (Ayush, Shanthi,etc)
        Aksharabhyasam/Vidyarambham
        Anna Prasanam
        Namakaranam
        Keshakadana
        Sri Satyanarayana Pooja
        Srimantham
